I am a native of Houston and currently live within one hundred feet of where I was born. (Not actually born, but where parents lived) I am so fortunate to have had my grandchildren, the sixth generation to have lived here, grow up practically in my front door. As I write this in June of 2021, I’m thinking that this will be the last summer that the family lives on this property. The noise of Houston commerce and industry has finally surrounded the old family farm, and so it is time to leave.

I began my career with the YMCA of Greater Houston working part-time while in high school and college. After a two-year stint in the army, I returned to the Y, retiring after 43 years as Vice President of Facilities. In that role, I was responsible for the operations and maintenance of 33 branches and three camps in east and central Texas.

I became interested in genealogy when the author, Alex Hailey published his book titled “Roots.” That was in 1976 and I have been pursuing the hobby in an ebb and flow pattern ever since. I often take a break from the pursuit, but it is never long before my interest peaks and I’m back in the libraries and archives. I am currently working on a family history book about my Great Grandparents who emigrated from Ohio to Kansas in 1878 and then moved on to New Mexico ten years later.

I enjoy working with our WHAG’s leadership team and proud of this website, developed by myself and our website development team. I’m looking forward to doing what I can to help our genealogy society be all that it can be.
